September 2016 Yarn Club: Kate Crackernuts

September 2016 Yarn Club: Kate Crackernuts

I just mailed out the October yarn club shipment, and that means I can tell you about the September installment of the Fall 2016/Folk & Fairy Tale inspired yarn club! September’s colorway was called “Kate Crackernuts” and was named for the fairy tale of the same name.

Kate was a spunky, feisty princess who took care of her sister (who had, through her own personal failure, been cursed with a sheep’s head). In the course of the story Kate uses resourcefulness and brains to save her sister, change her head back, and rescue a prince from fairyland at the same time. You can read a short version of the story here.

In sock weight, the yarn is a new club-only base yarn - Madeleine; an 55% Superwash Merino/15% Nylon/30% Outlast yarn that gets 6-8 stitches per inch on a US 0-2 and comes in 425-yard, 100-gram put-ups. Outlast is a rayon fiber which continuously interacts with your body to moderate temperature, Simply, it absorbs excess heat from your skin when you’re warm and releases heat back to you when you’re not.

In worsted weight, the yarn is Carolyn, an 80% Superwash Merino/10% Cashmere/10% Nylon yarn that gets 4-5 stitches per inch on a US 7-9 and comes in 200-yard, 115-gram put-ups.

Swag was soap that smells just like the hazelnuts Kate used to distract the baby in fairyland. This soap is nutty and light, and the tiniest bit sweet.

Sad you missed it? I won't have any extras this time around, but you can set your sights on the next round of yarn club, which will open at the beginning of November and will stay open through the end of December (or until sold out, whichever comes first). The theme isn't 100% set in stone yet but may be another fairy tale theme - when doing research for this round I read many stories of the ocean, three of which stood out with some great color ideas. So stay tuned for more info on that...!
