Fresh from the HaldeKiln

So that I could slip away from work (shh, don't tell my boss) and meet some friends for lunch on Monday, I fired the kiln over night on Sunday instead of during the day on Monday. It takes 16 hours to cool, though, so I still couldn't open it until I got up this morning... and here's the result -- That new plaque (a coffee grinder, if you can't tell) was a challenge! It didn't occur to me until after I had it poured that it might not actually fit in the kiln. The kiln is 25" across, but you need...

Squeee! The last of the berry baskets! Today is rather overcast (plus I have social obligations most of the day) so I don't know that today, unfortunately, will be the best of days for photographing. I have a few hours free in the afternoon, so if it's bright and sunny I will run off to the market and get a lot of fresh fruit for a fun and tasty photo session. If not, it'll have to be tomorrow (come rain or shine, because I want to list these on Monday)!  That got me thinking about what fruit to get for...

I can't even tell you how happy I am with this week's firing - every time I look at this picture I just start to bounce up and down like a little girl.  LOOK AT THOSE BERRY BASKETS. Just look at them.  I will wait while you continue to look at them. And bounce up and down like a little girl.  I have five more to glaze and fire this week, and then I'm going to put them all up for sale. There will be eight different colors, and I will have one of each color up for sale here,...

Monday was my every-other-week bisque kiln firing, and as you can see it turned out well, if random. If you didn't know there was a method to what I poured, you'd think I was just pulling molds off the shelf blindly.  Madonnas. Mugs. Soap dishes. More tiny birds than you can shake a stick at. But mostly, yarn mugs. I counted and looked over my custom order list and theoretically, barring any horrific accidents, I should be done pouring all of the custom order yarn mugs in eight more weeks. That's only two months! What a crazy six months it's...

Well, I was really happy with this firing, until I dropped the red teardrop shaped dish. "I can carry all this," I said to myself, picking up five things and balancing them while I opened the door. "No I can't," I replied to myself, as the red one on top of my precarious pile tumbled off and shattered on the ground. At least I didn't drop everything else trying to grab and save it! I have a couple more soup mugs (the light brown ones need a little touch-up work) and I will be dividing the rest between my...
