Gray weathered wood. A dilapidated house too long in the salt and sun and wind. Storm clouds rolling in over the water. Days so dark you'd swear that it's night; nor'easters, hurricanes. Hours spent looking out of the living room window of the house I lived in, as a child, on the ocean; watching waves swell and seagrass blow, and not being able to tell where the ocean ended and the sky began. Driftwood. Fog. Silver and smoke. This colorway is all of those things, and more.
I started dyeing yarn professionally for Hanks Yarn and Fiber in 2007, and have continued with HaldeCraft HandDyed since 2011. If you are looking for photos of yarn colorways or finished objects and are on Ravelry, you can find my yarn in their database; just look for "HaldeCraft HandDyed".
As with my yarns, all of my rovings are hand-dyed singly or in batches of two. If you would like to order for a large project, please contact me and I will be more than happy to dye your order with every attempt to get each as matching as possible. However, as with all hand-dyes (not just my own) I recommend that once spun, working from alternating balls on larger projects as even yarns dyed at the same time may not be perfectly matched.
Whatever you spin with this will be feltable; keep that in mind when planning your projects.
Rich dye colors may bleed a bit when setting twist; feel free to, on stovetop, bring yarn and water to a simmer with a cup of vinegar until dye exhausts. Do not agitate
This pencil roving was dyed in a smoke-free, but not pet-free home; however, once dyed it is kept sealed in bins which cats and dogs do not have access to.
