Acorn-shaped birdfeeder in Mediterranean Olive and Molasses
Not squirrel-proof, but terribly cute, this acorn birdfeeder is sure to be as much of a hit in your yard as it is in mine. The top of this acorn is glazed in “Mediterranean Olive” and the bottom in “Molasses”, which work together to make a realistic greenish-brown over brown.
The acorn birdfeeder can either be set upon a post, or hung from something sturdy using fishing line or some other string or twine that can support at least three pounds. I have included a close-up of the hole through which the line can be strung.
This birdfeeder is glazed with non-toxic glazes and can be hand-washed with hot soapy water or even run through the dishwasher.
Approximate Height: 6.5 inches
Approximate Width: 7 inches
Approximate Weight: 2.5 pounds
As I make these individually, should you wish one side to be left closed in order for this to be a birdhouse instead of a birdfeeder, just drop me a line.
I learned ceramics like an old-school apprentice, at the feet of my grandmother who had a studio in the 1950s and 1960s, and many of the pieces I make are from now-vintage molds that she bought then. My pieces are unique, hand painted, and proudly made in my own home studio. I bought this Scioto mold new in 1990, and while it is sometimes persnickety to pour, I love making it. As with all my other ceramics for which I own the mold, I pour each piece, clean them while greenware, fire them in my kiln, glaze them, and fire them again. I am happy to do custom orders for other color combinations – just drop me a line! Custom orders currently take approximately 5-6, to allow for multiple kiln firings (and the persnickety nature of the mold, which usually results in having to make it more than once).
