Crocheted Doily Plate (Marie style; rectangle)
The kind of plate that your dinner company exclaims over before dinner is served. The kind of plate that catches your eye in the morning light as it sits on the sideboard holding the best fruit of the season, or cookies fresh from the oven. The kind of plate that you treasure, and hand down through the generations. Sturdy enough to use every day, classy enough to use for special occasions. Slab-rolled and impressed with a hand-crocheted doily, these pieces are then trimmed, cut, and shaped into beautiful one-of-a-kind plates - each one is subtly different, as they are made by hand. If you, too, love both clay and yarn, this is a piece that will speak to your heart.
Additionally, this piece was designed to fit a particular brand of frozen pizza that used to come in a box, which could be used as a plate after cooking the pizza. A drastic package redesign negated the box, causing a need for a large rectangular plate that would fit the pizza without the rectangular sides of the pizza falling off the edges of a smaller round plate.
These plates are glazed with non-toxic glazes, and can be washed with hot soapy water or even run through the dishwasher in order to be cleaned. Each one is made by hand, slab-rolled, doily-impressed, and hand-cut; while the glaze colors remain the same from firing to firing, the placement of the doily may change from plate to plate and your plate may be slightly different than photographed. As they are hand-built, each one is a little bit different as far as height and weight go, but the approximate dimensions are listed below:
Approximate Height: .75 inches
Approximate Size: 10 x 11 inches
Approximate Weight: 1.5 lbs
HaldeCraft ceramics begin life as slip-cast, hand-built, or wheel-thrown pieces and then are painted and glazed and put out into the world, all by the hands of one person. I learned ceramics like an old-school apprentice, at the feet of my grandmother who had a studio in the 1950s and 1960s, and many of the pieces I make incorporate now-vintage molds that she bought then. My pieces are unique, hand painted, and proudly made in my own home studio with confidence, mindfulness, and joy.
