Tatterhood. A childless queen who wants children gives birth to two daughters. One is fair and beautiful, and the other is gray and hideous, and is born riding a goat and waving a wooden spoon. The sisters grow up to be the best of friends, and one day when the castle is threatened, the “ugly” sister bids everyone to stay inside the walls while she rides around the castle on her goat, beating the trolls up and chasing them away with her wooden spoon. One troll, however, gets a glimpse of the “beautiful” sister, and steals her head, replacing it with a cow’s head. This makes Tatterhood angry, so she takes a boat out by herself and goes to the island of the trolls to steal her sister’s head back. In some versions of this story there is also a prince that she rescues, but in some versions she and her sister stay in a land near the island, and meet a prince. The prince of course falls in love with the “beautiful” sister, and wants to marry her, but she refuses to unless his brother will marry Tatterhood. He is reluctant (I don’t know why… a goat-riding spoon-wielding capable woman seems like quite a catch!) but as they are riding to the wedding and he begins to talk to her, her goat turns into a stallion, her spoon into a magic wand, and her face into the kind of beauty that even puts her sister to shame. By the end of the journey the brother has fallen in love with her. The moral of the story? People become more beautiful as you get to know them.

HaldeCraft HandDyed yarns started life in 2007 in a small yarn store in Gainesville, Florida (Hanks Yarn and Fiber) and was then called "Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye". It has continued online as HaldeCraft HandDyed since 2011, and is hand-dyed and lovingly re-skeined in a small home studio by someone who loves the fiber arts just as much as you do. If you are looking for photos of yarn colorways or finished objects and are on Ravelry, you can find my yarn in their database; just look for "HaldeCraft HandDyed".

All of my yarns are hand-dyed singly or in batches of two. If you would like to order for a large project, please contact me and I will be more than happy to dye your order with every attempt to get each skein as matching as possible. However, as with all hand-dyes (not just my own) I recommend working from alternating balls on larger projects as even yarns dyed at the same time may not be perfectly matched.

This yarn was dyed in a smoke-free, but not pet-free studio; however, once dyed it is kept sealed in bags inside bins which studio dogs do not have access to.
