July 2014 Yarn Club: Yggdrasil

Here is (::sniffle::) the third and last installment of the Norse Mythology inspired yarn club! July's colorway was Yggdrasil, and while it’s the last colorway in this round of club, it’s the first idea that I had. Yggdrasil Yggdrasil, in short, is the Tree of Life. There’s so much to say about Yggdrasil that I could type my fingers off. It’s an immense tree (most say ash, some say yew) whose three roots grow deep into other realms (by each of these three realms is a corresponding well) and whose branches cover all nine worlds and reach up into the heavens. Some interpretations say that the tree grows straight up through five of the nine worlds. Creatures that have many stories of their own live in and on Yggdrasil, including a dragon , a squirrel , four stags, and an eagle. The gods hold court at Yggdrasil daily. As I said… too many stories to be able to list them all. You can read a short little bit more about Yggdrasil here, and a lot more here. Yggdrasil If you opted for sock, the yarn was Marion, an 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon blend which gets 6-8 stitches on a US 0-2. Yggdrasil If you opted for Worsted, the yarn was Carolyn, an 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon light worsted weight that gets 4-5 stitches to the inch on a US 6-9. Hats off this time (all the time, who am I kidding?) to Rhea from Tutu Tuesday & Totes for the swag, lovely project bags in different fabrics that match the colorway. She used every scrap of fabric to make these bags, and as some of the fabric was being discontinued, these are definitely one-of-a-kind items! Everybody give her a round of applause, because I think I might have broken her. Yggdrasil PS. Sad you missed out on yarn club? Me too! But the next round is now open, and will be until the end of August. The theme next time around is Fantasy Literature, and you can read more about that here.
